Enjoy a delightful spring break with a distinctive Dutch flavour visiting the magnificent, world-famous Keukenhof gardens, staying in the pretty resort village of Schoorl. Set amidst the coastal sand dunes and natural forest, your hotel is a holiday spot to relax in too!
The Fletcher Hotel Jan van Scorel is located right at the edge of the dune and nature reserve area in the pretty village of Schoorl near the cheese city of Alkmaar, 4km from the coast. It offers comfortable modern rooms, a tasteful restaurant, bar and lounge area, outdoor terrace and an indoor swimming pool.
Day 1
Please Note: Tour pick-ups start on Sunday 18th April, with overnight travel, Travel from Dover to Dunkirk, and on to Holland and the village of Schoorl.
Day 2
This morning we visit the nearby Dunes Visitor Centre and Café for a perfect view and information on the flora and fauna that surrounds you. This afternoon travel to the Dutch 'cheese city' of Alkmaar to explore this pretty medieval city famous for its canals, historic buildings, great cafes and shopping opportunities. Perhaps visit the Weigh House and Cheese Museum on Waagplein to learn about the market that has taken place since the 16th Century.
Day 3
Enjoy a full day excursion to and through the Dutch Bulbfields with your included visit to the Keukenhof Gardens, named 'The Greatest Flower Show on Earth', with over 70 acres of parkland and 10 miles of walkways. Admire a vast collection of hundreds of thousands of flowers displayed in the beautifully landscaped gardens, which adorn the estate.
Day 4
This morning travel to the delightful museum village of Zaans Schans, on the banks of the river Zaan just north of Amsterdam. Visit the traditional houses, windmills, barns and workshops where people live and practice traditional crafts - make sure you have time for a traditional pancake. This afternoon we visit Volendam, also known as "The Pearl of the Zuiderzee", a fishing village founded in the 14th century. Walk along its promenade, discover its quaint shops and with traditional clothing sometimes still worn by its inhabitants, enjoy a step back in time.
Day 5
Say farewell to Holland and head to Dunkirk for the ferry to Dover and homeward journey.
