Rutlands Riches

Day 1

We travel to Peterborough with comfort stops en route, arriving at the Delta by Marriott Peterborough for our four-night stay.

Day 2

Rutland may be the smallest county in the UK, but it boasts a rich history! The pretty historic market town of Oakham is home to an impressive Norman castle and the Rutland County Museum, a treasure trove of captivating exhibits. We head to Barnsdale Gardens, the UK's largest collection of individually designed gardens, which was created by the much-loved late BBC Gardeners' World presenter, Geoff Hamilton, before enjoying a relaxing afternoon cruise on Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe.

Day 3

After breakfast, we visit the cathedral city of Peterborough, where you have plenty of free time to explore. This afternoon we visit the lovely historic town of Oundle with its many listed buildings and specialist shops. Returning to our hotel in time for our evening meal.

Day 4

"The finest scene between London and Edinburgh" is what Sir Walter Scott said of Stamford, a Georgian town of immense charm with over 600 listed buildings, which has been used many times as a filming location. Also featured in many films is Burghley House, which is one of the largest and grandest houses of the Elizabethan age. It is home to extensive collections, many fine rooms, the garden of surprises and landscaped parkland.

Day 5

After breakfast, we begin our journey home, making suitable comfort stops en route.
