Dumfries & Galloway

Discover the unspoilt beauty of south-west Scotland on this relaxing break to Dumfries and Galloway

Discover the unspoilt beauty of south-west Scotland on this relaxing break to Dumfries and Galloway. Explore picturesque harbour towns, beautiful gardens, fascinating wartime history and stunning coastal scenery in a region rich in heritage and natural beauty.

Holiday Inn Dumfries combines modern comfort with traditional Scottish hospitality. Surrounded by beautiful parkland and just a short distance from Dumfries town centre, the hotel offers an ideal base for exploring this often-overlooked corner of Scotland.

Day 1

We travel north to Scotland, making suitable comfort stops en route. This afternoon, we visit Annandale Distillery for a guided tour and tasting experience, with the opportunity to sample up to two whiskies and take home a miniature bottle and souvenir tasting glass. Please note: The production area is accessed via a flight of 18 stairs and may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. We then continue to the Holiday Inn Dumfries.

Day 2

Explore the Rhinns of Galloway, with its historic harbour village of Portpatrick and Logan Botanic Garden, which is Scotland's most exotic garden. Here, you can discover botanical treasures from around the world, located close to Scotland's most southerly point. Return to Dumfries through the Galloway Forest Park and along 'The Queen's Way'.

Day 3

This morning we visit the Devil's Porridge Museum, for a remarkable story of the people who worked during the First World War in the biggest munitions factory in the world. This afternoon we take time to discover Dumfries, home to the Robert Burns Centre, located in the town's 18th-century watermill, and Burns House, where Scotland's national poet spent the last years of his life.

Day 4

Our excursion takes us past Sweetheart Abbey and along the coast with views over the Solway Firth, before arriving in the picturesque harbour town of Kirkcudbright, with a colourful blend of medieval, Georgian and Victorian buildings and now home to some lovely artists' galleries and studios. We head north and travel round the shores of Loch Ken, before returning to Dumfries.

Day 5

After a leisurely breakfast, we make our way home with comfort stops en route.

INCLUSIONS: Guided Tour and Tasting at Annandale Distillery, Entry to Logan Botanic Garden, Entry to The Devil's Porridge Museum, Visit to Portpatrick, Visit to Dumfries, Visit to Kirkcudbright and Full Day Scenic Tour of the Galloway Coast.
