York and Castle Howard

Day 1

With a morning departure, we will make our way to York with suitable comfort stops en route. Arriving at the hotel in the early evening..

Day 2

Today we visit Castle Howard, one of England's grandest Baroque mansions. Set within 1,000 acres of breathtaking landscape, enjoy lavishly decorated rooms, stunning architecture, idyllic gardens and lakeside walks. Continue via Sutton Bank to the traditional market town of Thirsk, which was home of the famous vet and author James Herriot.

Day 3

Explore Heartbeat Country with a wonderful nostalgic trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, a visit to the historic coastal town of Whitby, with its famous cliff-top Abbey, and the small village of Goathland, which was 'Aidensfield' in the Heartbeat TV series, whilst the railway station here was used as 'Hogsmeade' in the Harry Potter films.

Day 4

A day in York. Firstly, we will enjoy a relaxing cruise along the River Ouse and then have free time to enjoy the rest of the day, discovering the many treasures of York. Rich in ancient history, York is renowned for its exquisite architecture, tangle of quaint cobbled streets, the iconic York Minster and hosts a wealth of visitor attractions, including the National Railway Museum.

Day 5

After a leisurely breakfast, we will make our way home.
